Yoonifi Introduction

In the past little bit, we've talking a little more publically about Yoonifi as we get things in the product a little more tight and usable. This post is intended to provide a tiny introduction to what Yoonifi is currently and how to best make use it, as well as a hint of where we're going with it.

In its current state there are, admittedly, broken and half-baked things, but overall, things are in a state that Yoonifi can be used as a viable web-based bookmarking tool (eg. in place of delicious).

In order to get started using the bookmarking functionality, there are two things you probably want to do:

  1. Grab the "Save to Yoonifi" bookmarklet from the tools area and drag it to your browser's bookmark bar
  2. Import your delicious bookmarks into Yoonifi (also accessible from the tools area). Note that this pulls in your public and private bookmarks and therefore requries your delicious account info.
So, once you're signed up, give a whirl and see if you can't drop delicious.

Some of the new features we're currently working on and hope to introduce soon:
  • "Topics", which is sort of like a personal wiki function plus structured attachments

    • We think this will be kind of an easy way to get people creating new content. Bookmarking is a passive activity, but Topics, which typically will be written around some set of related links, could provide a nice starting point to write an article, or a how-to, create a portfolio, wishlist, or whatever other kind of "curated" collection you want. One of my friends pointed out that this was like a Mix Tape for your content. Awesome analogy. We'd also like to have topic templates so a gallery or portfolio would look different from your favourite books Topic.

  • Smarter bookmarking - namely recognition of "what" a bookmark represents/is, and content-specific handling/functions/display thereof.
  • Public/private content
  • feeds
  • The usual social stuff
  • More item types, and eventually user-defined types
Stay tuned as we clean up what's there and gradually add features! Thanks for your interest (and patience)!.
